Study Tour

The FCS travel study program is designed specifically for the Apparel Merchandising and Design and Interior and Environmental Design sequences of the Family and Consumer Science major.  Inquiries may be directed to Elizabeth Reed.

 

FCS 393 Travel Study is a 3-credit hour field study tour designed to provide learning experiences abroad. 

 

The May 2008 European tour visited professional sites in London, Paris, and Florence.

Students on past tours have visited the following common European sites:

  • Tour of London, Paris, and Versailles
  • Shakespeare's Globe Theatre for a tour and performance
  • Victoria & Albert Museum, Harrods Department Store
  • Cruise on the River Seine

Worth Global Style Network Limited, Vivienne Westwood, Alain LaLou, Zandra Rhodes, Louis Vuitton, Printemps Store, Bernard Thorp Fabric Mfg., Liberty's of London, Galleries Lafayette, and Lesage.

Interior & Environmental Design

Chelsea Design Centre, Musee D'Orsay, Louvre, Hampton Court, Eiffel Tower, Carnavalet, Bernard Thorp Fabric Mfg., John Stephanides Studio, Pompidou Center.

 

*Although anyone is welcome to join us, the course is specifically designed for FCS majors.  On-campus readings and orientation sessions help students prepare for the trip. 

"Capital of the World" Study Tour, Summer 2009

The FCS "Capital of the World" fashion study tour to New York City departed from Chicago on May 12 and returned on May 17, 2009. A partial list of sites visited included: Henri Bendel, LaDuca Couture Shoes, StyleSight, LifeStyle Visuals, Tommy Hilfiger,Symphony Fabrics, and Bloomingdales.
