Ewing Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships and Awards

Below is a list of all Department of Family and Consumer Sciences scholarships and eligibility requirements.  Application forms are available in the FCS Department Office, Turner Hall 144.  

Mary Scheeler Crane Scholarship $1,000.00  

Criteria required:

  • Be a student in good standing at Illinois State and maintain at least a 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Major in an area of specialization in FCS
  • Use the scholarship for educational and/or housing expenses

Alice B. McKnight Scholarship $1,000.00

Criteria required:

  • Junior or senior standing fall semester
  • Be a declared teacher education major in FCS with a GPA of 3.0 in the major
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 overall GPA

Mae Warren Feeney Scholarship $500.00

Criteria required:

  • Must be an FCS major
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing (at least 30 credits at Illinois State) fall semester
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 overall GPA and 2.7 GPA in the major
  • Have demonstrated financial need

Dora L. Munson Scholarship $2,000.00

Criteria required:

  • Declared major in FCS
  • Sophomore, junior or senior standing fall semester
  • Must show promise and commitment to a career in education
  • Must have academic skills demonstrated by a GPA of at least 2.5
  • Must have the potential to make a positive influence on society
  • Must possess strong principles and be of high character
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Jesse Rambo Scholarship 

Criteria required:

  • Senior standing by fall semester and have at least 3.5 overall GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Evidence of campus activities and leadership
  • Potential for professional success

M & M Scholarship (Male and Minority) 

Criteria required:

  • Be a male or racial minority (American Indian, Asian, Black or Hispanic) student
  • Be currently enrolled as an FCS major
  • Graduate or undergraduate student with at least sophomore standing (no less than 30 credit hours)
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Secure recommendations from two FCS faculty members

Florence Runyon Scholarship

Criteria required:

  • Be a declared major in FCS with a 3.0 or above overall GPA 
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing fall semester

Hattie Lundgren Scholarship  $600.00

Criteria required:

  • Graduate or undergraduate student majoring in FCS
  • Be actively involved in community volunteer activities

Susan R. Hoblit  $500.00

Criteria required:

  • Sophomore, junior or senior standing fall semester
  • Major in (or have applied to major in) FCS with an emphasis in Interior and Environmental Design
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 (if currently an Illinois State student)
  • Demonstrate financial need

Outstanding Senior Award

Each spring semester, FCS awards one graduating senior the Outstanding Senior Award. Faculty are asked to nominate students for this and a committee selects the student to be honored among those who have been nominated.  The award is presented to the student at the FCS Spring Awards Banquet held in April each year.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistantships (UTAs)

Undergraduate Teaching Assistantships are available to junior and senior FCS majors who have demonstrated excellence in the discipline and high overall scholastic achievement. The purpose of the program is to assist the faculty in the improvement of instruction and to provide UTAs with a valuable learning opportunity. Typically in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences five to eight are awarded each semester.
