Child Development
National Association for the Education of Young Children, Kappa Omicron Nu
In 1990 Pam was a practicum student at ISU Child Care Center, then she was hired as a teacher aide and worked at the center until she graduated in May 1992. In May 1992, Pam taught two and three year old children at a day care center in Kankakee, Illinois. In August 1993, she became the 2 year old Head Teacher at ISU Child Care Center. Pam has worked as a Head Teacher with the 2’s as well as our mixed age group classroom of 3-5 year old children.
Children are naturally inquisitive people. They want to know about anything and everything. Pam enjoys being a daily part of their lives as they explore and discover the unknown. The kids love to investigate and are always anxious to share their findings with others. Her favorite thing about working with children is their carefree attitude. They are always laughing, smiling and enjoying life. The kids seem to notice the simple pleasures in life such as finding a ladybug or listening to the music made by a wind chime. As adults, we are often too busy to enjoy the world around us. Kids have a way of helping those around them sit back, relax and smell the roses!
Pam has given presentations and published a project summary at the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. She has also given local and state-wide presentations on implementing The Project Approach with 2 year old children. She was the co-author of "Plays Well With Others", an article on children’s play published in Child Care Information Exchange. Pam received the CAST Outstanding Graduate Student Researcher Award 2000.
