Project Approach, preschool children
Barb has worked with young children since 1977 in a variety of settings including university based child care, for-profit child care, a Title XX child care program and a preschool setting. She has worked at Illinois State University Child Care Center since 1981 and has been Head Teacher in both the two-year-old classroom and the 3-5 year-old mixed age classroom.
There are many reasons Barb finds working with young children rewarding and interesting. Young children continually amaze her as well as make her smile. They are so capable and curious. They express their feelings openly and honestly. They help her look at the world with the vigor, excitement and appreciation that only young eyes provide. When working with young children, you never know from day to day what they will say, do or think. The possibilities are endless and I like being able to be a part of those possibilities. It is very rewarding watching and sharing in their growth and development.
Barb has presented at National, Midwest, Illinois, and local NAEYC conferences as well as presenting on a variety of topics for parents, early childhood professionals and college students on a variety of topics including: the Project Approach, positive discipline, transitions, creative problem solving, scheduling a classroom day, and various curriculum topics. Barb has also worked as a consultant with the local Child Care Resource and Referral Network.
