This application page is for CURRENT Illinois State University students. High school or transfer students interested in applying to Illinois State University should visit the Office of Admissions Web Site, complete the on-line application, and are encouraged to indicate the particular sequence of the Family and Consumer Sciences major you are interested in on the application.
Students must have a minimum ISU or transfer GPA of 2.50 to be eligible to apply to the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) major or minor.
The FCS major is broken down into sequences:
Applications for the Apparel Merchandising or Design sequence (AMD), Human Development and Family Relationships (HDFR) sequence (which then requires the student to choose to complete either the Human Development option or the Family Relationships option of the HDFR sequence), and the FCS minor are accepted in both Fall and Spring semesters, on September 1st and February 1st, and are due by noon on the second Friday of the month.
Applications for the Interior and Environmental Design (IED) sequence, Food Nutriton and Dietetics (FND) sequence, and the FCS/HDFR Teacher Education sequence of the FCS major are accepted only in the Spring semester (Fall admission only), on February 1st, and are due by noon on the second Friday of the month.
You should receive an email confirming that the department has received your application from the FCS advising office. If you do not receive a standard confirmation reply, please do email the FCS advisor to inquire. (rfkane@ilstu.edu).
Note: Admission to the FCS department is competitive. Admission decisions are based not only on the cumulative GPA of the applicant, but on the quality of the overall pool of applications, and the number of seats available in the department for new students. Students will receive decision letters regarding their application by the end of the month.
