Graduate Assistantships/Financial Assistance

Expenses

  • Tuition and Fees
    Detailed information concerning tuition and fee rates both in state and out of state can be found at the Student Accounts Web site.
  • Transportation Costs
    Transportation Costs are incurred by the student. A reliable car is absolutely necessary. The hospital sites we work with are located out of town (approximate distance from Illinois State is 50 miles one way). The state of Illinois requires all licensed drivers to carry liability insurance. Illinois State Universiyt is not responsible for any damange to an intern's car which may occur traveling to or from a hospital site or while at that site.

  • Malpractice Liability Insurance: $35.00
  • Housing
    Although student housing is available on campus through University Housing Services, internship students are responsible for the cost of housing.
  • Residence Halls information about on-campus housing is available at the University Housing Services site. Further information about on-campus meal plans can be found at the site for Campus Dining Services.
  • Student Apartments
    Student apartments are available for rent through University Housing Services. More information about these locations can be found on thier site.
  • Off Campus Apartments
    There are additional opportunities for off-campus appartments. Double occupancy appartment pricing can be expected to be around $3600 per year.
  • Additional Expenses including: Midwest Child Life Conference, etc. $300.

Financial Assistance

Graduate Assistantships are typically available for the three semesters of on-campus course work. These are for either 10 hours per week ($350/month) or 20 hours per week ($700/month) and include a full tuition waiver. Partial tuition waivers are also periodically granted by the department for the fourth semester when the student is doing their child life internship

If an academic assistanship is awarded for both the fall and spring semesters, the student will recieve a tuition waiver for the following summer semester. Please be certain to include the required Graduate Assistanship form (available online or in your application packet).

Gradaute Assistant Handbook

The Financial Aid Office is available to assist students with loans and deferments. Student loans may be deferred during the internship experiences and graduate studies.
